Botox® vs. Dysport®

Botox vs. Dysport | Botox CT | Dysport CT | Re:nu 180 Medspa

If there’s one thing more stressful than suffering from fine lines or wrinkles, it’s choosing the right injectable treatment to fix them. There are numerous options out there, so doing the proper research can take quite a bit of time and energy. At Re:nu 180 Medspa, we don’t want you to stress about choosing treatments – that could cause more wrinkles! So, to help put your mind and those pesky signs of aging at ease, we’ve outlined the key facts you need to know about the two most common botulinum toxin A injections: Botox® and Dysport®.

Deciding which treatment is best for you is not a matter of which works better but rather the desired individual results. These two treatments may seem the same, but it’s important to determine which suits you the most based on your specific skincare needs.

What’s the Difference Between Botox and Dysport?

Botox CT | Re:nu 180 Medspa

As mentioned above, Botox and Dysport contain the same active ingredient, botulinum toxin A. Yet, despite their similar makeup, these injectables settle into the skin differently. Dysport is made of smaller molecules than Botox, so it can spread to larger areas and gives a subtle, natural-looking result. On the other hand, Botox is better for treating more precise areas and provides a refreshed look for those who want a more targeted approach to wrinkle reduction.

Botox and Dysport also differ when it comes to dosage. While individual needs vary, with Dysport, clients typically require more units than those who get Botox. But, in terms of final results, both produce equally stunning smooth skin.

Botox, Dysport: Which is Better?

Both treatments can address crow’s feet, forehead wrinkles, frown lines, and more, but everyone responds to injections differently, so it’s important to discuss your options with a trusted clinician. At Re:nu 180 Medspa, our APRNs will take your personal preferences, skin type, and other circumstances into consideration when deciding on which treatment to use. Some people are better suited for Botox, others Dysport, and sometimes, clients need a mixture of both! There’s an art behind injectable treatments, so it’s not a one-size-fits-all situation.

How Long Before I See Results?

Both treatments take about 7-14 days to take effect. However, some studies have shown that results from Dysport can appear a few days earlier, given its unique composition. Botox and Dysport are also similar in longevity, plus or minus a couple of days. They can be expected to last 3-4 months, depending on the individual and the dose. Common side effects are likely to include redness, swelling, soreness, and bruising. Thankfully, all side effects are short-lived and shouldn’t last longer than about a week.
